“Biseri” Folklore Group

Folk dances · founded 2011

The Biseri folklore group was founded in 2011. Biseri cherishes and promotes Bosnian and Herzegovinian cultural heritage through folk dances. The group performs at events organized by BKC and at multicultural events in the Turku region.

Over the years Biseri has taken part in many events, including Kirjamessut (the Turku Book Fair), Mahdollisuuksien tori (the Square of Opportunities) and cultural events during Turku's city district weeks. A notable performance was at the closing event of 2011, the year Turku was European Capital of Culture.

The section has had between 15 and 38 members. Many former members of the children's and youth group are adults today, and the tradition is gradually passed on to new generations.

The group is looked after by its leader and choreographer, and rehearsals are held regularly once a week. The current leader and choreographer is Admira Kulovac; earlier leaders were Mersa Purković, Nedžad Hadžić and Sabahudin Bake Halitović.
